APPOINTMENTS

Master of Laws, LL.M. Jutta Karlsson has joined LMR in October 2004. She specialises in general business law, contract law, corporate law and financing.

Jutta Karlsson received her master degree in law from the University of Helsinki in 1988 and LL.M. degree (international business law) from Central European University in 1999. She has long experience especially from metal and building material industry and she has acted as Legal Counsel for eg Ovako Steel, Metra, Lohja and Kvaerner Masa-Yards. Jutta Karlsson joined LMR from Stockholm where she worked as Legal Advisor in the Council of the Baltic Sea States since 2003.

Jutta Karlsson enforces LMR's M&A, General business law, Financing and Competition law competence groups with her wide experience in business law.

LL.D. Marjo Ojala will join LMR on 7 December 2004. She has specialised in EU and Finnish competition law and is regarded as one of the leading authorities on Finnish competition law. She will be a member of the 9-strong competition law group, which offers both EU and national competition law expertise to both foreign and national clients.

Marjo Ojala obtained her doctorate of law in 1996 from the University of Helsinki and prior to that received her master degree in law from the University of Turku in 1992. She has been a visiting researcher at the Georgetown University Law Center and involved in legal research in numerous countries. She has acted as an associate professor at the University of Turku and gained experience at the Competition Directorate-General of the European Commission. She is an Expert Member of the Market Court in Finland. Before joining LMR, Marjo Ojala was the head of the competition law team at Ernst Young (Helsinki) in 2001-2003. She is the author of "EC Competition Law" (Finnish) to be published in 2005, "The Competition Law of Central and Eastern European Countries", Sweet and Maxwell, London and co-author of "The Nordic Views on Merger Control" E.C.L.R. 3/2003 and numerous other articles and books.

INTERNATIONAL FINANCIAL LAW REVIEW 1000 / 2005 RATES LMR BANKING PRACTICE

IFLR (International Financial Law Review) 1000 has, in its 2005 edition, listed our firm in the top tier of recommended firms in the area of Banking. According to IFLR 1000, the firm "is considered excellent for banking advice, and moves up a tier from last year after receiving numeroius plaudits from interviewees". IFLR mentions Kimmo Mettälä, Raimo Seppälä and Janne Tuulos among the firm's lawyers active in this field. In addition to the Banking sector, our firm has been listed among the firms active in the M&A sector.

THE EUROPEAN LEGAL 500 RATES LMR AGAIN

THE EUROPEAN LEGAL 500, a leading international publication with regard to evaluating law firms, has in its 2004 edition again given high rankings to Luostarinen Mettälä Räikkönen in most legal practice areas. For the third successive year, our firm has been ranked among the top four Finnish law firms in Banking and Finance. In addition, the firm was highly ranked in our other principal practice areas, such as corporate and commercial law (including M&A), EU and competition and IT and telecoms.
