LMR HIGHLY RANKED IN CHAMBERS EUROPE – Europe’s Leading Lawyers for Business 2010

Chambers & Partners, a highly respected London-based publisher of guides to the world's top lawyers, has in its 2010 edition of Chambers Europe – Europe’s Leading Lawyers for Business ranked LMR as a leading firm in Banking & Finance, Competition/European Law, Dispute Resolution, Intellectual Property  and Restructuring/Insolvency.

LMR’s Jukka Luostarinen and Ilkka Leppihalme are named among the leading lawyers in Competition/European Law; Kimmo Mettälä in Banking & Finance; Raimo Seppälä and Keijo Räikkönen in Dispute Resolution; and Timo Ruikka in Intellectual Property.

LMR was also included in Chambers & Partners’ Euro Top 100 Survey.

THE LEGAL 500 RANKED LMR IN THE FIRST CATEGORY IN EU AND COMPETITION – LMR highly ranked also e.g. in Banking and Finance and Maritime and Transport

THE LEGAL 500, a leading international publication of recommended law firms, has in its 2010 edition again given high rankings to LMR in most legal practice areas. For example, LMR has been ranked in the highest category in EU and Competition and very highly ranked (2nd category) in Banking and Finance and in Maritime and Transport.

Furthermore, LMR was highly ranked (3rd category) among the recommended law firms in Capital Markets, Corporate and M&A, Dispute Resolution, Real Estate and Construction and TMT.

In total LMR was recommended in eight practice areas (out of the ten which The Legal 500 evaluated in Finland), and was always ranked in one of the first three categories of recommended law firms.

The evaluations by The Legal 500 are based primarily on the comments received from our clients and competitors.

Miia Roiko has been appointed a lawyer

Miia Roiko has been appointed a lawyer on 10 May 2010. Ms Roiko practices in the areas of banking and finance and creditor’s rights. She also advises clients in corporate and contract law as well as employment law matters.

Ms Roiko obtained her master’s degree in law from Helsinki University in 2010.

Johan Schmidt has been appointed Senior Counsel of LMR Attorneys Ltd.

We are pleased to announce that Johan Schmidt has joined our firm as Senior Counsel as of 3 May 2010. Johan Schmidt’s primary areas of practice include contract, technology and IPR law.  

Schmidt has previously worked for Nokia Corporation, where he held senior legal and management positions, more specifically as Director & Group Legal Counsel and as Vice President & Head of the company’s venturing and new business development activities. Prior to Nokia, Schmidt worked as an associate at Roschier-Holmberg & Waselius, Attorneys-at-law (currently Roschier).

Johan Schmidt’s experience covers most areas of business law and transactions, and he has a keen understanding of strategic and business management issues in addition to his role as a lawyer.  We warmly welcome him back to the legal practice following his pursuits of more personal interest.

Timo Sipi joined LMR Attorneys Ltd. as a partner

Attorney, LL.M. (London) Timo Sipi has been invited to join LMR Attorneys Ltd. as a partner as of January 1, 2010 to become the Head of LMR's newly established IP and Technology -practice area. IP and Technology -practice area covers the entire range of legal services and expertise required by corporate clients in the areas of Intellectual Property and ICT (Information, Communication and Technology) including sourcing and procurement, outsourcing and technology protection and licensing. As a partner Timo Sipi will also assume a significant role in the management of LMR, especially in the development of organization, strategy process and customer relationship management.

Timo Sipi moves to LMR from the position of Executive Partner of Sipi & Suominen, Attorneys-at-Law. In his previous position Timo Sipi has been acting, in addition to his other assignments, as a permanent advisor for many Finnish and foreign major corporations and technology companies in the areas of legal and risk management issues. Timo Sipi also acts as a board member in a number of Finnish technology companies and in that role, is heavily involved in the commencement of the international operations of those companies.

Previously Timo Sipi acted as a Senior Advisor and Head of Telecommunication, Media and Technology -practice area of Waselius & Wist, Attorneys-at-Law, and before that he has held various legal and legal management positions in Nokia Corporation and Outokumpu Corporation during 10 years.
